Frequently Asked Questions

1.What kinds of outdoor activities do you offer in Gavros?

We offer a variety of experiences in the Meteora region including guided hikes, via‑ferrata routes, mountain bike tours, horse riding, wine tastings and custom outdoor adventures tailored to your interests and skill level.

2. Do I need any prior experience or fitness to join?
While prior experience is not required for many of our activities, a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility is important. Some programs are more challenging — if you have doubts, let us know and we'll recommend the right option for you.

3. What should I bring or wear for an activity?
We recommend:

  • Comfortable, weather‑appropriate clothes (layers are good)

  • Sturdy shoes (hiking boots or trail shoes)

  • A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen

  • A reusable water bottle

  • For water/rock activities: quick‑dry clothes, swimwear if needed
We provide all required technical gear (helmets, harnesses, etc.) as relevant.

4. Are children allowed to participate?
Yes — we welcome families and children. However:

  • Children must be accompanied by a guardian or parent.

  • Participation of minors depends on the specific program, age and physical condition.

  • Parent/guardian consent is required for minors.

  • The safety instructions from our guides must be followed at all times.

5. How long are your programs and what is included?
Program durations vary: from half‑day experiences to full‑day or multi‑day adventures. Each program listing on the site explains duration, meeting point, what’s included (gear, guides, transport, meals) and what to bring.

6. How do I make a booking?
You can book via our website by selecting the activity you’re interested in, filling out the participation form and paying the deposit or the full amount as specified in the program. Once confirmed, you’ll receive all the details and preparatory information by email.

7. What is your cancellation policy?

  • For one‑day activities: full refund if cancelled more than 16 days before the start; partial refund if cancelled 0‑15 days in advance.

  • For multi‑day programs: refund percentage depends on notice period (e.g., full refund up to 45 days before, then sliding scale to no refund if cancelled at 0 days).
Detailed terms are part of the booking agreement.

8. What happens if the weather is bad or unsafe conditions arise?
Safety is our priority. We may postpone, modify or cancel a program in the event of unsafe weather or other conditions. If we cancel, you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another date. If you choose to cancel due to weather and the program can proceed, the normal cancellation policy applies.

9. Can you accommodate groups or tailor‑made experiences?
Absolutely. Whether you’re a family, group of friends, school, or corporate team — we can create custom itineraries that match your interests, pace and skill level. Contact us with your preferences and we’ll design a program just for you.

10. What about insurance, liability and health issues?
We hold professional liability insurance. However, all participants must be in good physical and mental condition and disclose any relevant health issues in advance. We strongly recommend additional personal travel/accident insurance especially for more active or multi‑day programs.

11. How do I reach you or find the meeting point?
Our base is in the village of Gavros, Kalambaka area. Meeting point details are provided on your booking confirmation. If needed, we can assist with transport or pick‑up from nearby towns (ask at time of booking).
You can contact us via email: info@theunknownmeteora.com or use our website contact form for inquiries.

12. What languages are your guides comfortable in?
Our local guides speak Greek and English fluently. Depending on the program and group, other languages may be available on request — let us know at booking.
