DESCRIPTION:

Among the towering rocks of Meteora, where stone touches the sky and mystery blends with history, lies the hidden monastery of Ypapanti. Built high on the cliffs in the 14th century, it once served as a place of prayer and later as a refuge for rebels, standing today as a silent witness of the past.

The circular trail that leads there unfolds through breathtaking landscapes. At every turn, panoramic views of Meteora’s colossal rocks appear, with monasteries rising like winged castles suspended in the air. In the distance, the Pinios River glimmers, framed by the rolling hills of Chasia and the rugged Pindus mountains.

Halfway along the route, the path passes by a cave shrouded in old tales — they say a dragon once guarded its depths, until lightning split the rock and silence took its place. The mark of that story still lingers in the air, a reminder of the power that shaped both myth and stone.

Here, legends still whisper — of mountains in love, of rivers born from tears, of dragons guarding caves, and of monks who became myths. Ypapanti is not just a destination; it is a passage through stories, a journey that connects every traveler with the raw beauty and timeless mystery of Meteora.
